The Pond Cottage, an idyllic retreat surrounded by nature
The Pond Cottage is tucked into a forest meadow where it overlooks its namesake water body. The owners call it a cottage; we’d call it a cabin. Either way, the Pond Cottage invites relaxation as it immerses you in the natural environment of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula.
The small cabin has 400 ft2 (37.2 m2) on the ground floor, with a bedroom loft over the back half. The front half of the cabin is a combined living and dining room with a vaulted ceiling. A fully-equipped kitchen and a bathroom with shower are at the back, under the loft.
The walls and ceiling are lined with pine tongue and groove boards, and peeled branches are used for the window trim and loft railing, giving the space a real woodsy cabin ambiance. And of course, there is a woodstove too.
Several large windows provide a view of the pond and the Olympic Mountains, while a sliding patio door offers easy access to the deck.
A bump-out to one side incorporates a window seat with a view of the trees. The owners made the window seat extra wide, so it is actually a single bed. That seems like a great idea — If you’re going to have a window seat, why not make it big enough for an afternoon nap or an occasional guest?
Between the queen-sized bed in the loft, the window seat bed, and a sofa bed, the Pond Cottage accommodates up to five guests. It can be rented through Olympic View Cabins.
Have a great weekend!
