A designer’s modern beach hut | Studiomama
Nina Tolstrup of Studiomama designed this modern beach hut for her own family. Just an hour outside London, it sits on a tiny patch of seashore, one in a row of 25 tiny vacation cottages. Small though it may be, the cozy hut was designed to comfortably accommodate her family of four during vacations stays in its 388 ft2 (36 m2).
The main room faces the beach with a wall of glass opening up the space to the ocean views. A compact kitchen is built into the back wall of the main room. A few steps down from the kitchen are the bathroom, bunk beds for the two children, and the entrance. Lowering that part of the hut and keeping the ceiling low made room for a mezzanine loft above, where the parents sleep. A low wide window in the loft allows the owners to enjoy a sweeping view of the countryside from their bed.
Floors, walls and ceiling of the tiny house are all covered by softwood boards. Matching wood is used for the cabinetry and furnishings, giving the space a simple, casual appeal. Overall it is a simple structure designed and executed well.
Have a great weekend!
