Gites Castelnaut is a recently modernized house in the tiny village of Laroque de Fa in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southwestern France. The roughly 135 m2 (1,450 ft2) cottage has a straightforward rectangular floor plan with living areas on the ground floor and bedrooms up.

Wide openings framed by wood beams open the downstairs rooms to one another. A simple material palette of tile floors and white walls with minimal wood accents is used throughout, making the living area feel very spacious. Two pairs of tall French doors bring in plenty of light and provide easy access to the garden, where a large pergola defines an outdoor dining room. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom plus a large balcony overlooking the garden.
